Every year, the thousands of professional athletes and amateur racers alike
convene on the Italian capital for the Rome Marathon, one of the biggest spring
marathons of its kind. Starting at the Via dei Fori Imperiali, an important road
and transport hub in the centre of town, the world-famous race takes runners
past historic local landmarks like the Coliseum and Piazza Venezia itself.

If you’re serious about seeing the start of the marathon in style, finding a hotel near the Via dei Fori Imperiali is essential.
One of Rome’s most important roads, the area is a goldmine of historical wonders, so you’ll struggle to find accommodation in the immediate vicinity. To make sure you beat the crowd and get a first-rate view of the 2025 marathon, opt for hotels in the city centre itself, just a short stroll from the starting pen.
Rome offers some of the most luxurious accommodations anywhere in Italy, with even basic rooms and budget hotels still offering the chance to relax in style. Once the race itself is over, you’re only a short walk from beautiful squares and streets in the centre of town, offering the perfect place to wine and dine your way through lunch or dinner, or just enjoy the scenery.
Even if you find hotels near the start or finish line fully booked, the marathon course itself meanders through some of the most beautiful landmarks in Rome, including world-famous monuments like the Trevi Fountain and the Pantheon.
If you’re priced out of hotels in the more sought after locations, consider opting for accommodation somewhere else along the course to allow you an up-close view of the action, amidst stunning surroundings.
In 2020 the 36th edition of the Rome Marathon was not held on Sunday 05th of April. This Marathon has been cancelled over fears of the coronavirus. In 2025 Rome awaits you on the 16th of March.

You won’t be surprised to find many hotels and guest accommodation fully booked if you’ve left your planning too late in the game.
Thankfully, if you’re forced to settle on hotels a little further out from the heart of the city, you can rely on Rome’s excellent public transport system to get you about quickly, cheaply and efficiently. The metro system runs throughout the day, offering express connections to some of the city’s most iconic sights and monuments, with easy transfers to outlying suburbs and districts if you’re opting for more rural hotels off the beaten track.
The city also offers an excellent bus system, along with plenty of taxis, rental scooters and bicycles to accommodate those looking for a cheaper, greener and more healthier alternative for travelling about.
