the Netherlands is one of the most popular events of its kind. Every year, the marathon

Be warned though, many places are booked up way in advance of the marathon, so once you’ve decided to visit, check accommodation availability as soon as possible to save disappointment. Due to the popularity of the race, many rooms might command a premium, especially more central hotels and those overlooking the local harbours. So if you’re racing, be sure to book hotels as far in advance as possible to save you a mini-marathon to the starting pens, even before the race has started.
If you’ve got the budget to spare, staying central ensures you’ll get the best from your stay, but if budget is a big concern, straying further field and exploring the suburbs and outlying areas can help you shave huge amounts of your spending.

Compared to other European countries, the Netherlands is relatively small, with an excellent transport infrastructure that makes city hopping a breeze.
Most international visitors will arrive into Holland via Amsterdam Schipol Airport – about an hour’s drive from the centre of Rotterdam, while those coming in by rail can make good use of the continent’s ICE (Inter-City) trains, connecting much of France, Holland, Belgium (Antwerp) and Germany.
This gives you much more flexibility when it comes to reserving hotels, and ensures plenty of contingencies should you find Rotterdam’s hotels fully-booked upon your arrival.
If you’re in town to spectate, staying close to the heart of Rotterdam is important if you want to watch the race from start to finish. The exact route changes from year to year, but there’s plenty of iconic landmarks that runners pass through every year.
There’s different start positions for different categories of runner and athlete, but the finish line remains largely consistent. To get a great view of the finish line, make sure you stake your spot outside of Rotterdam Town Hall, or better still, make sure you’ve booked accommodation as close as possible to the street it lies on, Coolsingel, so you can beat the crowds and get the best view possible.
