Wherever you stay in the city or its suburbs, be sure to spend some time strolling along the Promenade des Anglais, the place to see and be seen, and enjoy some fresh seafood in its fine restaurants. This promenade area gives you a real sense of the cosmopolitan atmosphere of Nice. You might just be lucky enough to find some cheap out of season deals in hotels in this area.
The city’s excellent public transport system means that wherever you stay there will be plenty of buses and trains heading into the city centre or to the Allianz Riviera Football Stadium. Once you are in the centre, you will find it compact enough to explore on foot.
Enjoy a coffee or al-fresco lunch in the picturesque Place Massena, and visit the Rusca Palace and St Nicholas Orthodox Cathedral, both in the Place du Palais. Take a climb up to the Colline du Chateau. There is little left of the castle itself, but your effort will be rewarded with panoramic views of the Baie des Anges, the port and across the city.
The Chagall and Matisse Museums are two of the city’s must-see galleries. All of these attractions are conveniently on your doorstep if you have booked cheap accommodation in the city centre itself, and the Allianz Riviera is only a few minutes away.
