In a time where trust is integral within the travel industry, our newly released Hotel Trust Index ranks the most trusted hotel brands around the world.
We analysed 100 of the most popular hotel brands to examine which of these notable brands are most trusted by the public.
To compile our index, we analysed the number of followers each hotel brand has across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram as well as analysing the search volume for each hotel brand to determine the most trusted ones in the game. Check them out below.
Top 10
1. Marriott

The Marriott came in the top spot as the most trusted hotel brand in the world with an incredible 2.6 million followers on Facebook, the most Twitter followers at well over 300,000, and the most searches of any other hotel brand with over a million people each month. With a hotel in every major city and tasteful décor to match it’s no wonder people have trust in this brand and look to return as loyal customers time and time again. The hotel chain also clearly cares about its employees with the CEO cutting his salary to £0 during the Coronavirus epidemic to ensure his staff and customers are comfortable.
2. Hilton
The Hilton hotel brand managed to scoop up second place with an incredibly strong social media follower of over 2 million when added together. Hilton is certainly a household name with its properties covering 85 countries and territories across the globe. Its most dominant social media platform, Facebook has almost 2 million likes and showcases reviews from happy customers and beautiful pictures of their hotels from across the globe.
3. RIU Hotels & Resorts
In third place is RIU Hotels and Resorts. While the Spanish hotel brand doesn’t have a lot of search volume, the predominantly European chain has plenty to shout about on social media with an amazing following of half two and a half million on just Facebook alone. RIU covers a range of exotic locations from the beaches of the Maldives to the deserts of Morocco as well as their humble beginnings in Mallorca. Guests come for the gorgeous locations but stay for the unmatchable service and wonderful hospitality.
4. Four Seasons Hotel and Resorts
In fourth place is the Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts whose 1 million Instagram followers catapulted them into one of the most trusted hotel brands in the world. Four Seasons are known for exuding luxury and elegance which is easy to find on their Instagram. Photos show off happy families enjoying the beach, delicious spreads of breakfast and topical paradises one can only dream of being.
5. Ritz Carlton
Coming in at 5th place is the luxury hotel chain, Ritz Carlton. The brand has built itself up over the years to become synonymous with opulence and style. They can be found in an incredible number of cities worldwide from the powder-white sands of Waikiki Beach to the busy city life of Tokyo. The Ritz clearly has a trusted following of loyal customers with the second most popular Instagram on our list, showcasing a mixture of images including husky sledding in Switzerland, a wedding in Malaysia and a sweeping aerial shot of the Ritz Carlton towering above busy LA streets.
6. Holiday Inn
Holiday Inn is the first budget hotel brand on our list proving that cheap prices need not skimp on quality. The chain has over 1 million followers on Facebook alone and a large search volume of 350,000 every month. Their loyal customers come back time and time again to enjoy a range of options in thousands of locations. Their hotels can be found by their signature green logo. Their trusty style and décor mean that every customer knows what to expect when they book.
7. Best Western
The Best Western hotels also appeared on our list of most trusted hotels with them ranging from budget options to large stately homes. It has a large search volume every month making it the go-to hotel for customers and an enormous Facebook community with over a million likes on this platform alone. As well as comfortable and affordable accommodation, they also offer a rewards program for their loyal customers to earn points that they can use to receive money off future visits or even airfare.
8. Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts
In 8th place is Shangri-La Hotels with a booming Facebook and Instagram. Although they don’t have a lot of search interest, they’re clearly drawing people in through their social media and there’s no surprise people are booking when there’s an array of gorgeous images from every corner of the planet. Shangri-La are pioneers of Asian hospitality, always ready to anticipate their customer’s needs and provide them with the best service than they’ll find anywhere else.
9. Sofitel
Sofitel is a little bit of an underdog on our list. Described as lifestyle hotels bursting with energy, the hotels have modern décor and reach to 40 different countries throughout the world. While the name Sofitel might not be on the tip of everyone’s tongues, the brand has built a commendable reputation for luxury and style ‘the French way’.
10. OYO
OYO is the third largest and fastest-growing hotel chain in the world with over 23,000+ hotels. The hotel brand has a strong follower over all their social media channels as well as a steady search volume. They’ve built a loyal customer base with accessible hotels for all from pet-friendly stays and business options.

Methodology
We compiled a list of the 100 most popular hotel chains from all over the world.
We then analysed the number of likes each hotel chain had on Facebook, the number of followers on Twitter and Instagram, as well as measuring the search volume for each on Google. We then ranked them based on the number of followers and search volume to find out the most trusted hotel chains in the world.
